A Species of Nodes is an interactive TouchDesigner file that reinterprets the program by (mis)using its interface as the final medium. Imagining TouchDesigner’s node-based environment as a living system, its ecology can be explored by a user. While navigating as an operator, normally just a static element within the program, the user can discover, connect and interact with the algorithmic species inhabiting the file. Foregrounding the interface itself reveals how it shapes both process and outcome, showing how the images produced are inseparable from the logic of their operators.
